In Ägypten sind die Büros mehrerer Nichtregierungsorganisationen durchsucht worden, darunter auch die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. Grund seien Ermittlungen wegen des Verdachts der illegalen Finanzierung, teilten die Behörden mit. Heftiger Protest kam aus den USA und Deutschland: Das Auswärtige Amt bestellte den ägyptischen Botschafter ein.
